Coleman Scores Six, As Stags Top Cal

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Junior Kristen Coleman
(Potomac, Md.) touched net six times while Caitlin Young (Wilton,
Conn.) posted five goals to help power the Fairfield University
women's lacrosse team to an 18-14 victory over the University of
California this afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
Coleman also added two assists and three draw controls in her
eight-point day. In addition to her goals, Young tallied four draw
controls, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Junior Katie
MacKay (Salem, Conn.) added three goals while rookie Chloe Mangan
(Sayville, N.Y.) added two goals.
The Stags (5-2) and the Bears (2-5) traded the first four goals of
the game. With the score knotted at 2-2, Coleman posted an
unassisted tally at 20:13. She then connected with Young at the
18:54 mark and posted her third goal of the game at 17:03 to give
Fairfield the 5-2 advantage. Alex Tickner pulled Cal within 5-4 at
the 12:45 mark, but a strike from Kate Reardon (Needham, Mass.)
followed by two from Coleman made it a four-goal game.
Leading 11-9 with 21:51 left in the second half, the Stags posted
six unanswered goals to pull away from the Bears. MacKay got things
started for the Stags at 17:36 and then again at 15:40. After
Coleman scored on a free position shot, MacKay struck again at the
12:52 mark. Mangan and Brittany Bare (Mason, Ohio) rounded out the
run with goals at 12:16 and 11:26, respectively.
Cal's Tickner and Alysse Kennedy combined to score five of the
final six goals of the game over the last 9:44 of play, but the
Bears could not pull within more than four.
Freshman Katie Keenan (Wantagh, N.Y.) made 13 stops in net while
Allie Shropshire made seven saves for the Bears.
Fairfield is back in action on March 28 when they travel to the
University of New Hampshire.
