Kellogg Scores Five to Lead Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. – Senior attack Ashley Kellogg scored a season-high five goals and dished out a pair of assists to lead Old Dominion to a 14-9 win over Saint Joseph’s Saturday afternoon at the Powhatan Sports Complex.
Sophomore Lisa Bernardini continued her stellar play, scoring a
goal and dishing out a career-high four assists in Lady Monarch
victory. Bernardini has now tallied five goals and handed out seven
assists in her last two games.
Junior Clara Flanagan and sophomore Sarah Wright contributed with
two goals and an assist each.
Old Dominion improves to 1-2 on the year, while St. Joseph’s
falls to 2-7. The Lady Monarchs are 3-0 all-time against the
Hawks.
ODU dominated the first half, out-shooting St. Joseph’s 21-9.
A 6-0 Lady Monarch run in the first 10:17 gave Old Dominion an
early cushion. Five different Lady Monarchs scored during the
spurt.
After a Hawks goal, ODU tallied the next three scores, capped by a
Flanagan goal that gave the Lady Monarchs their largest lead of the
game (9-1).
St. Joseph’s scored three of the final four goals of the
opening half to go into the break down 10-4.
The Hawks continued their end of the half momentum, scoring three
straight goals out of the intermission. St. Joseph’s outshot
ODU 18-8 in the second half.
With the Lady Monarch lead cut to three (10-7) Kellogg and Wright
registered consecutive scores to give ODU a five-goal advantage
with less than 10 minutes remaining. The squads would exchange
goals during the final minutes, but Old Dominion maintained its
lead to garner its first win of the season.
ODU was led defensively by senior Saratu Dodo and sophomore Sarah
Geary. Dodo caused a game-high five turnovers and Geary recorded 11
saves in the win.
