from press release

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.
— The 18th-ranked William and Mary lacrosse team will square off against its second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference opponent when it plays at Virginia Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m.

W&M will be looking for its second consecutive victory against the Hokies, as it earned a 14-8 win last season in Williamsburg. Ashley Holofcener came up big in the triumph with seven points (3g, 4a), while Mary Zulty posted four points (3g, 1a). The College leads the all-time series, 2-1.

Although updated national stats will not be available until Monday, the Tribe (3-3) entered this week ranked among the country's best in numerous categories. W&M ranked third nationally in caused turnovers per game (13.4), 11th in ground balls per game (23.00) and 13th in draw controls per game (14.4).

Individually, All-American junior Sarah Jonson entered the week leading the nation in ground balls per game (5.00) and ranked second in caused turnovers per game (3.00). Both of those figures increased following an outstanding performance against No. 6 Virginia on Wednesday, as the Dallas, Texas native equaled a career high with seven ground balls to go with four caused turnovers.

Junior goalkeeper Emily Geary entered the week ranked 26th nationally with 9.2 saves per game and increased that figure to 9.67 after equaling a season high with 12 stops against the Cavaliers on Wednesday.

Offensively, senior Mary Zulty leads the Tribe with a team-high 22 points (16g, 6a), while junior Ashley Holofcener is second on the squad with 19 points (7g, 12a). Holofcener entered the week ranked 11th nationally with 2.4 assists per game. Juniors Grace Golden and Molly Wannen have also posted impressive stats with 15 and 12 points, respectively, while freshman standout Kyrstin Mackrides is also in double figures scoring with 11 points.

After opening the season 1-1, Virginia Tech has lost five of its last six games and enters this weekend's contest with a 2-6 record. Among those losses were setbacks to CAA opponents George Mason and James Madison. Caitlyn Wier leads the team with 19 points (11g, 8a), while Jessica Nonn (17g) and Allie Emala (13g, 4a) both have 17 points apiece.
