No. 18 William & Mary Travels to Va. Tech

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The 18th-ranked William and Mary
lacrosse team will square off against its second consecutive
Atlantic Coast Conference opponent when it plays at Virginia Tech
on Saturday at 1 p.m.
W&M will be looking for its second consecutive victory against
the Hokies, as it earned a 14-8 win last season in Williamsburg.
Ashley Holofcener came up big in the triumph with seven points (3g,
4a), while Mary Zulty posted four points (3g, 1a). The College
leads the all-time series, 2-1.
Although updated national stats will not be available until Monday,
the Tribe (3-3) entered this week ranked among the country's best
in numerous categories. W&M ranked third nationally in caused
turnovers per game (13.4), 11th in ground balls per game (23.00)
and 13th in draw controls per game (14.4).
Individually, All-American junior Sarah Jonson entered the week
leading the nation in ground balls per game (5.00) and ranked
second in caused turnovers per game (3.00). Both of those figures
increased following an outstanding performance against No. 6
Virginia on Wednesday, as the Dallas, Texas native equaled a career
high with seven ground balls to go with four caused turnovers.
Junior goalkeeper Emily Geary entered the week ranked 26th
nationally with 9.2 saves per game and increased that figure to
9.67 after equaling a season high with 12 stops against the
Cavaliers on Wednesday.
Offensively, senior Mary Zulty leads the Tribe with a team-high 22
points (16g, 6a), while junior Ashley Holofcener is second on the
squad with 19 points (7g, 12a). Holofcener entered the week ranked
11th nationally with 2.4 assists per game. Juniors Grace Golden and
Molly Wannen have also posted impressive stats with 15 and 12
points, respectively, while freshman standout Kyrstin Mackrides is
also in double figures scoring with 11 points.
After opening the season 1-1, Virginia Tech has lost five of its
last six games and enters this weekend's contest with a 2-6 record.
Among those losses were setbacks to CAA opponents George Mason and
James Madison. Caitlyn Wier leads the team with 19 points (11g,
8a), while Jessica Nonn (17g) and Allie Emala (13g, 4a) both have
17 points apiece.
