No. 8 Syracuse Tames No. 10 Towson
from press release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The eighth-ranked Syracuse women's
lacrosse team jumped out to an early 6-0 lead on its way to an
18-10 victory against No. 10 Towson in the Carrier Dome on
Wednesday, March 17. Four members of the Orange scored three or
more goals as Syracuse improves its record to 4-1. The loss is the
first for the Tigers this season ( 4-1).
The offensive production of senior Christina Dove and junior Tee
Ladouceur rank among the highest in school history. Ladouceur led
all scorers with a career-high 10 points (4g, 6a). That total ties
her for fourth on Syracuse's single-game record list, and her six
assists tie for the fifth-highest single-game total. Dove also
posted a career high with nine points (6g, 3a), which tie her for
ninth on the school's single-game record list. With the six goals,
Dove now has 202 in her career, making her the second player in
school history to record 200 career goals. She also extended her
streak of consecutive games with a goal to 45.
Ladouceur started the scoring with a goal at the 28:15 mark on an
assist from Dove. After Dove converted a free position attempt, she
assisted on Ladouceur's second goal, which came on a
behind-the-back shot, to give SU a 3-0 lead with 23:48 left in the
half. Goals by junior Lindsey Connell and freshman Michelle Tumolo
increased the Orange's lead to 6-0 before back-to-back goals by
Towson's Jess Dunn cut the lead to 6-2 with 15:38 remaining. Tumolo
netted her second goal of the game at the 12:49 mark, sparking
Syracuse on a 5-0 run as the Orange took an 11-2 lead into the
locker room at halftime.
Dunn recorded the first goal of the second half before Syracuse
scored three unanswered goals to take its largest lead of the game,
14-3, with 22:48 remaining. Towson's Hillary Fratzke found the back
of the net to halt the Syracuse scoring run as the Tigers scored
four of the game's next six goals to cut the lead 16-7 with 12:26
left in the contest. The score remained that way until Tumolo
scored on an assist from Ladouceur with 6:05 remaining and Dove
converted another free position attempt as the Orange matched its
largest lead of the game with 3:00 remaining. Towson scored the
final three goals of the game in the last 1:15 for the 18-10
final.
"We have a bunch of plays setup where there are multiple options to
get the ball to someone," Ladouceur said. "We don't have just one
or two players that are going to be looking to get the ball.
Everyone on our offense can score, so I think that is why we are
such a big threat on that end of the field."
Connell finished with a career-high five points on four goals and
an assist, while Tumolo recorded three goals and an assist.
Freshman Tegan Brown had one goal, and senior Halley Quillinan
added an assist. Dunn led Towson with six goals.
The Tigers outshot the Orange, 28-27, and both teams controlled 15
draws. Syracuse had nine ground balls to six for Towson. Syracuse
goalkeeper Liz Hogan tied her career high with 14 saves, while
Towson's Mary Teeters had eight saves.
Syracuse is back in action on Sunday when it hosts five-time
defending national champion Northwestern at 1 p.m. at Christian
Brothers Academy at 1 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
