Johns Hopkins Explodes Against GW

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Thirteen different players scored as
Johns Hopkins defeated host George Washington, 21-11, on Wednesday
afternoon at Mount Vernon Athletic Complex. Sophomore Candace Rossi
(Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) led the Blue Jays with a hat trick
and four points. Hopkins wins its second straight game to improve
to 5-3, while George Washington falls to 2-6.
Leading 8-6 at the half, the Hopkins' offense came alive in the
second as the Blue J ays outscored the Colonials, 13-5, to pull
away for the win. Senior Angela Hughes (Manchester, MD/North
Carroll) got things going, scoring a pair of goals in the first
4:14 of the second half to spot the Blue Jays' a four-goal lead.
Megan Seidman cut the deficit back to three with a free position
goal with 24:57 still to play.
But Hopkins won the enusing draw and senior Sam Schrum (Pasadena,
MD/St. Mary's) cut across the arc to score on a hard shot just 28
seconds later. Schrum's goal ignited a 7-1 Hopkins' run that saw
the Blue Jays push out to a 17-8 lead with 10:16 to play. Junior
Brooke Foussadier (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township) and Rossi
fueled the run with a pair of goals each.
Taylor Donohue took a feed from Casey Disharoon four minutes later
to make it a 17-9 game. But Hopkins wasn't done yet. The Blue Jays
got a pair of quick goals from Schrum and freshman Katie Duffey
(Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) just 31 seconds apart to push the lead to
10.
The Colonials got one back on a strike from Hannah McLaughlin, but
the Blue Jays anwered with goals from senior Danielle Ensley
(Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and junior Ashley White (Thurmont,
MD/Walkersville). Hilary Quinn would score for GW with just 27
seconds to play to account for the 21-11 final.
