Loyola Wins at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. - Abby Rehfuss and Meg Decker both
scored hat tricks as the 17th ranked Loyola Greyhounds defeated
Cornell, 11-9, Saturday afternoon on the Big Red's Schoellkopf
Field. Grace Gavin and Emily Gibson also scored two goals apiece,
while Mary Heneberry added the other.
Down 2-0 early, Loyola scored five unanswered goals to take a 5-2
lead with 14:29 remaining.
Decker got the Greyhounds on the board with an assist by Rehfuss to
cut the two-goal lead in half and Gibson, off a pass from Caroline
Hager recorded the equalizer just under ten minutes into the
game.
Rehfuss then scored a pair of goals two minutes apart as Loyola
took a 4-2 lead.
Gibson scored the last of five consecutive goals for the `Hounds
with 14:29 remaining.
Cornell ended the half on a 3-2 run as the Greyhounds went into the
half with a 7-5 lead, with Rehfuss completing the hat trick and a
score by Gavin providing the offense for Loyola.
The Big Red took charge after the break and tied the score at eight
with 21:35 to go.
Decker then scored a pair of goals to complete her hat trick and
Gavin's second score gave Loyola an 11-8 advantage.
Rehfuss led the Greyhounds offensively with four points on three
goals and an assist, while Decker recorded her first hat trick as a
Greyhound.
Gibson recorded a pair of goals and a team-high three ground balls,
while Gavin tallied a pair of goals and a team-high three draw
controls. Gibson and Ashley Moulton tied for the team-lead with a
pair of caused turnovers.
Loyola goalkeeper Kerry Stoothoff played all 60 minutes and
recorded seven saves as the Greyhounds recorded their second
straight victory.
Libby Johnson led Cornell with three points on a goal and two
assists, while Jessi Steinberg, Shannon McHugh and Katie Kirk all
had two goals apiece.
Kyla Dambach recorded six saves in just over 38 minutes in net for
Cornell. Kristen Reese was credited with the loss, allowing four
goals without recording a save in 22 minutes between the pipes.
