Temple Pulls Away from Jacksonville
from press release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Temple lacrosse
team jumped out to a 2-0 lead and never looked back, ultimately
earning a 12-4 win on the road at Jacksonville (2-6). Senior
Chelsea Rosiek led the Owls (2-3) with three goals and an assist as
TU dominated, out-shooting the Dolphins 34-18.
Rosiek scored the first goal of the game just over three minutes in
off an assist from Stephanie Markunas, and it was Markunas who put
the Owls up 2-0 just 30 seconds later.
After TU took a 5-3 lead by halftime, Jacksonville came out and
narrowed the margin to one, but it would prove to be the final goal
for the Dolphins.
Rosiek scored back-to-back goals within 40 seconds, and less than
10 minutes into the second half the Owls had a 9-4 lead.
Ann Stouffer scored twice for Temple as did Charlotte Swavola,
while Markunas and Allison McWilliams each had a goal and an
assist. Rounding out the goal-scoring efforts for TU were Melissa
Schweitzer, Kellee Pace and Lindsey Colferai with one goal
apiece.
Jessica Colucci played the complete game and made eight saves for
the Owls. It was a strong day defensively for Temple, who recorded
38 ground balls to Jacksonville’s 24. Leading the effort was
senior defender Tracy Zimmer with six ground balls along with two
caused turnovers.
“It was a great win for us,” said Temple head coach
Bonnie Rosen. “We needed to try to find momentum, and we had
to build it throughout the contest. Jacksonville is a young but
talented team, and they forced us to figure out how to play our
game.
“The game was won on good team defense, and Jess Colucci had
a great day in goal. Some great individual efforts created
wonderful team offense. It was a good confidence-builder as we get
ready for Delaware (on Wednesday).
The Owls will return home for their next contest, a 3:00 p.m. game
against Delaware on Wednesday, March 17.
