Hofstra Women to Honor Eder at Halftime
from press release
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team will
host #20 Rutgers on Saturday at 1 p.m. and the athletic department
will honor former Pride great Bridget Eder at halftime for being
named to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) 25th Anniversary
Team.
Hofstra will look to regroup after dropping a tough 6-5 decision to
#4 Penn on Wednesday. It dropped Hofstra's record to 3-2 this
season with both losses being one-goal defeats to top 10 teams.
Hofstra fell, 13-12, to Notre Dame on February 23.
As part of the 25th Anniversary of the Colonial Athletic
Association, the CAA is honoring silver anniversary teams in each
of its sports during this academic year. These teams consist of the
25 top players in CAA history in each sport, as voted on by a panel
of coaches. The Hofstra athletic department will be recognizing the
Pride's representatives on the CAA Silver Anniversary teams at
various events throughout the year, and at halftime of Saturday's
game Hofstra will honor former Pride women's lacrosse
student-athlete Eder, who was chosen to the CAA 25th Anniversary
Women's Lacrosse team.
The only first team All-American in program history, Eder earned
second team All-American honors in 2004 and following that up with
first team accolades in 2005. A two-time Colonial Athletic
Association Defensive Player of the Year, she garnered All-CAA
honors three times in her career. Also a three-time regional
All-American, she ranks first in program history in ground balls
with 229 and caused turnovers with 126. In addition, Eder is also
third all-time with 135 draw controls in a career that spanned from
2002-2005.
Hofstra roared back on Wednesday after trailing 6-1 with just over
22 minutes left in the second half and cut the deficit to 6-5 with
six minutes remaining. That would be as close as the Pride would
get, though, as both defenses clamped down in the final minutes of
the contest. Hofstra was led in scoring against the Quakers by
senior midfielder Corrine Gandolfi and freshman midfielder Jill
Maier, who each tallied two goals. Gandolfi, who leads Hofstra this
season in every statistical category, added three draw controls,
two caused turnovers and two ground balls against Penn.
For the season, Gandolfi has team-highs of 14 goals, four
assists,18 points, 23 draw controls, 10 ground balls and nine
caused turnovers. Defensively, junior defense Katie Hertsch has
been strong as she has 10 ground balls, 10 draw controls and six
caused turnovers.
Rutgers enters Saturday's game with a perfect 5-0 record after
defeating St. Joseph's (PA), 17-6, on Wednesday.
