Mar 10, 2010 Siena Bounces Back, Beats Wagner
from press release
Allie Kain and Kristin McMillan each scored four goals as Siena
bounced back with a 12-10 win at Wagner Wednesday afternoon in
Staten Island, N.Y. The Saints scored six straight goals to take a
9-4 lead and held on to pick up the road win.
Siena (3-1) lost its first game of the season last Saturday - 20-5
at Boston College.
Wagner (1-3) led 4-2 until Kain started a six-goal spree with a
free-position goal at the 3:45 mark of the first half. Junior
midfielder Erin Hepper scored 11 seconds later to tie the game and
with five minutes gone in the second half, the Saints led 9-4.
McMillan came off the bench to score four goals on five shots. Kain
led all players with six points.
Wagner made a comeback bid midway through the second half with five
goals in an eight-minute span. The Seahawks cut the deficit to 10-9
with 11 minutes remaining, but McMillan scored the eventual game
winner with 8:44 left.
Melanie Garces scored her second free-position goal of the game to
bring Wagner within one goal again, but Siena held possession for
most of the remaining time and Hepper tacked on some insurance with
2:48 left.
Siena outshot Wagner 34-21 and had an edge in ground balls (13-8)
and draw controls (17-7).
Sophomore goalie Kristin Concordia made five saves in the win.
The Saints return to action on Friday when they host cross-town
rival UAlbany at 3:30 p.m. Siena has never defeated the Great
Danes.
