IWLCA Division I Poll: Duke Soars to No. 3

No. 1 Northwestern and No. 2 Maryland held strong at the top of this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division I poll, but there was some shakeup below them, as Duke moved to a season-high No. 3 and Virginia rose to No. 6, giving the ACC four schools -- including No. 4-ranked North Carolina -- in the top six.

No. 19 Hofstra moved into the poll for the first time in 2010, giving the CAA three schools in the polls.

The Big East leads all conferences with five schools in the top 20, the most since the American Lacrosse Conference had five schools ranked in the final poll of the 2007 season. No. 7 Georgetown leads the group, followed by Syracuse at No. 8, Notre Dame at No. 15, Loyola at No. 17, and Rutgers at No. 20.

The American Lacrosse Conference, the Ivy League, and the CAA each have three schools. In the ALC, the Wildcats lead the way at No. 1, with Penn State moving up to No. 12 and Vanderbilt rising to No. 14. In the Ivy League, Penn dropped to No. 5, while Princeton and Dartmouth held at No. 13 and No. 16, respectively. In the CAA, Towson moved into the top 10 at No. 10, with William & Mary just above newcomer Hofstra. The Tribe sits at No. 18 and the Pride at No. 19.

Stanford from the MPSF moved up to No. 9, while Boston University from the America East dropped to No. 11.

Ranked matchups of note:

* On Wednesday, No. 7 Georgetown visits No. 2 Maryland, No. 10 Towson is at No. 8 Syracuse, and No. 6 Virginia travels to No. 18 William & Mary.

* On Saturday, the No. 4 North Carolina visits No. 7 Georgetown, No. 15 Notre Dame visits No. 11 BU and the No. 6 Virginia visits No. 13 Princeton.

* On Sunday,  top-ranked Northwestern visits No. 8 Syracuse, plus an ALC showdown with No. 12 Penn State at No. 14 Vanderbilt.
