Freshmen Lead Temple Over Bonnies

PHILADELPHIA - Freshmen Karly Cohen and Missy
Schweitzer combined for seven goals, including three in the final
four minutes of the game, to lead Temple (3-11, 2-4 A-10) to a
crucial 14-12 win over St. Bonaventure (7-9, 1-5 A-10) on Friday
afternoon. Cohen netted a game-high four goals and dished one
assist, while Schweitzer had three tallies, including the
Trailing 12-10 with just under seven minutes to play, the Owls used a huge offensive surge to score four straight goals, kicked off by a quick stick goal by Brittney Hoffman, and take their second Atlantic 10 win.
Hoffman, Ann Stouffer and Allison McWilliams each had two goals, while Ali Incarnato netted one. Stouffer and Incarnato each dished one assist.
The Bonnies jumped out to a 3-0 lead to begin the game but the Owls were not down for long. Ann Stouffer’s free position goal at 16:05 started a four-goal run to make it 4-3 with just over 13 minutes to play. SBU leading scorer Molly Hastrich was responsible for the Bonnies’ next two goals, putting the visitors back on top, 5-4, at 10:29. The teams traded goals for the remainder of the stanza, three of which were scored in the final minute and a half, to make it 7-6 in favor of the Bonnies at the break.
St. Bonaventure made it a two-goal game (8-6) just two minutes into the second half but Hoffman and Stouffer teamed to keep it close with a tally at 2:38. Bona attempted to pull away and put together a three goal run to make it 11-7 at 13:43. After a quick timeout, the Owls regrouped and scored three straight goals of their own, to make it a one goal game (11-10) at 9:28. Danielle Drabin ended the TU run with an unassisted goal at 6:53 to give the Bonnies a 12-10 advantage but Temple refused to quit. Hoffman got it started with an unassisted goal at 6:08 and Cohen tied the contest at 12 with 4:26 left to play. Schweitzer converted a free position attempt for the game-winner at 3:55 and then added the insurance goal with just over one minute to play. The Bonnies furiously fought for possession but were unable to overtake the Owls, who won the game, 14-12.
TU boasted excellent midfield play, with Kelsey Zenuk, Lindsey Colferai and Tracy Zimmer each collecting three draw controls.
Jessica Colucci had eight stops in goal for the Owls, while St. Bonaventure’s Tori Waheibi had 11 saves.
The Bonnies were led by Molly Hastrich with four goals and one assist.
