No. 19 Dartmouth Squeezes Past Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Kat Collins (Darien, Conn.) tallied three goals in leading the #19 Dartmouth women's lacrosse team to an 8-6 victory over Yale in the Big Green's Ivy League opener.
Katherine Chiusano (Medford, N.J.) put Dartmouth ahead 1-0 5:13 into the game off an Eliza Bennett (Darien, Conn.) assist. Collins scored on a free position shot with 25:34 remaining in the first half to put the Big Green up by two.
Natalie Reid put Yale on the board less than a minute later when she scored her second goal of the season. Collins pushed the lead back to two just 31 seconds later, firing a shot past Yale goaltender Whitney Quackenbush for goal number 16 on the season.
Jessica Sturgill made the score 3-2 in favor of the Big Green with a goal assisted by Jenna Block, her second assist in as many chances.
The two teams traded the next two goals as the first half wound down. Bennett recorded her second point on the afternoon with a goal of an assist from freshman Sarah Parks (Ellicott City, Md.). Jenn Warden scored her first of two goals in the game with 2:20 left in the half, allowing the Bulldogs to go into the half down 4-3.
Sturgill evened the contest at four apiece with her second goal at 25:28 of the second half, again coming from an assist by Block.
Dartmouth scored three unanswered goals to go up 7-4. Greta Meyer (Denver, Colo.) scored her first goal of the game with 23:52 left in the game with a free position opportunity. Collins recorded her third goal of the game by the same method 1:38 later. Sarah Plumb (Wellesley, Mass.) put home an assist from Meyer for the game winner with 17:51 left in the game.
The Bulldogs cut the lead to two thanks to a free position goal by Taylor Fragapane with 9:04 on the clock. Two minutes later, Meyer scored her second on her second free position opportunity of the game for her ninth goal this season.
Warden netted an unassisted goal for Yale with 6:25 remaining to round out the scoring.
Dartmouth scooped up 16 ground balls to 14 by Yale. The Big Green also had a 9-7 advantage in draw controls.
Julie Wadland (Andover, Mass.) made nine saves in the win while Quakenbush also stopped nine shots.
