from press release

PHILADELPHIA - The Albany women’s lacrosse team (2-5) jumped out to an 8-0 lead to begin the game and never looked back, as the Great Danes defeated the Temple Owls (0-5), 15-8, on Sunday afternoon.

Freshmen Melissa Schweitzer, Lauren Fisher and Keelin Hood all had two goals apiece to lead the Owls, while Allison McWilliams and Kelsey Zenuk each scored one.

Great Dane leading scorer Kayla Best began the eight goal run with an unassisted tally just two minutes into the contest. Hood finally got the Owls on the board at 6:51 and Fisher added one more nearly 20 seconds later to make it 8-2. The teams traded goals for the remainder of the half to make it 9-3 at the break.

Best began the second half like she did the first, making it 10-3 at 28:10. Zenuk and Fisher notched back to back goals to get the Owls within five goals (10-5) with just under 16 minutes to go but Albany answered with a two goal run of their own to retain the seven-goal differential. Albany continued to roll and took a 15-6 advantage with 4:16 left. Schweitzer netted two goals in the final two minutes of the game for the 15-8 result.

Jessica Colucci had three saves as Temple’s starting goalie, while Tess Bishop stopped three shots in 34 minutes of action. Katie Neer stopped five shots in nearly 58 minutes in goal for Albany.

Temple next travels to Delaware on Wednesday for a match-up with the Blue Hens at 4 p.m.
