WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse team started the 2009 season with a resounding 17-2 victory over George Washington this afternoon at Multi-Sport Field. The 17 goals were the highest total for the Hoyas since they scored 18 against the Colonials two years ago.

Junior Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) led GU with five goals, while Sarah Seats (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) and Jacqueline Giles (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) added three apiece.

The Blue & Gray jumped out to a 3-0 lead within the first five minutes behind goals from junior Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul), Ford and Giles. Kaestner's goal came off a free position shot and Ford assisted on Giles' goal.

After GWU got on the scoreboard, the Hoyas responded with three goals in a 1:31 span. Sophomore Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) scored from a free position shot and Seats and Ford followed with tallies of their own for a 6-1 GU lead.

Ford scored off a pass from Kirr for the seventh goal, Seats added the eighth, Kirr scored off an assist from freshman Danielle Van Fossan (Morristown, N.J./Chatham) for the ninth and Giles made it an even ten heading to the halftime lockers.

In the second half, the ladies picked up right where they left off in the first 30 minutes. Senior Megan Bloomer (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) scored her first goal of the season before Ford and Seats made it 13-1.

Freshman Kelly Barnes (St. Davids, Pa./Radnor) scored off a free position shot and sophomore Mary Beth Brophy (Berwyn, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) added goals to push the lead to 14 with 19:46 to play. Giles and Ford would close the scoring for the Hoyas with two more goals and a 17-2 advantage.
