"National champs, son!" Onondaga Community College midfielder Adam Traynor said it all during a postgame celebration with teammate Desi Gonzales. The Lazers are NJCAA men's lacrosse champions again. Onondaga got two goals and two assists from Jerome Thompson and three goals from his brother, Jeremy, to defeat defending national champion Nassau Community College, 9-8, at a brisk and windy Wehrum Stadium. "What a feeling it is for these guys," Onondaga coach Chuck Wilber said. "Our slogan all year has been ‘deserve it,' and today, they deserved it." © Greg Wall

NJCAA: Essex the New No. 1 After Downing OCC

CCBC Essex has supplanted defending champion Onondaga as the top team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) men's lacrosse rankings, thanks to a thrilling 22-19 victory Saturday over the Lazers.

The Knights, under new head coach Shawn Burke after Brian Duncan left to become Matt Kerwick's top assistant at NCAA Division I Jacksonville, are 3-0 and received five of six first-place votes in this week's poll. The remaining first-place vote went to No. 2-ranked Monroe, which toppled No. 5-ranked Nassau, 7-5.

Onondaga fell to No. 3 and Anne Arundel held at No. 4 to round out the top five.
