NJCAA: Essex the New No. 1 After Downing OCC

CCBC Essex has supplanted defending champion Onondaga as the top team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) men's lacrosse rankings, thanks to a thrilling 22-19 victory Saturday over the Lazers.

The Knights, under new head coach Shawn Burke after Brian Duncan left to become Matt Kerwick's top assistant at NCAA Division I Jacksonville, are 3-0 and received five of six first-place votes in this week's poll. The remaining first-place vote went to No. 2-ranked Monroe, which toppled No. 5-ranked Nassau, 7-5.

Onondaga fell to No. 3 and Anne Arundel held at No. 4 to round out the top five.
