Westminster Releases Schedule

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's
lacrosse team released the schedule for the 2012 season today.
Westminster will play a total of 18 regular season games against
teams from both divisions of the MCLA and a team from Division II
of the NCAA.
The schedule features nine home games, including three during the first-ever Griffin Invitational. The Griffins will play three teams that qualified for the 2011 MCLA D2 National Championships and the defending DI national champions. The teams on the schedule won a total of 150 games last season with three conference championships.
Westminster will open the season with a home game against Boise State on January 28 at Dumke Field. It is then off the Nevada for the third annual Full House Face Off in Henderson. The Griffins will play the defending LSA champions Sam Houston State in the event opener on Feb. 17. It will be a MCLA first round rematch on Feb. 18 as the Griffins play Western Oregon. They conclude the event on Feb. 19 against UC Santa Cruz.
A trip to California for two games follows the Nevada event. Westminster will play at Saint Mary's on Feb. 28 and then face NCAA DII foe Dominican (Calif.) on Mar. 1. The Griffins will return home on Mar. 4 when they host Montana at Dumke Field.
Three straight games against in-state teams is then on the docket. They will play at Utah State on Mar. 10 before playing host to Utah on Mar. 14. The Griffins open RMLC West play with a game against rival Utah Valley at Dumke Field on Mar. 17. Montana State will then come to SLC for a game on Mar. 23.
The Griffin Invitational begins on Mar. 30 with Northern Colorado facing MCLA D2 runner-up St. Thomas (Minn.) and then Westminster playing Concordia (Calif.). The games on Mar. 31 feature Concordia against Northern Colorado and Westminster facing St. Thomas. The games on April 1 are between St. Thomas and Concordia followed by Westminster versus Northern Colorado.
After playing the annual game against the alumni on April 7, Westminster will travel to Colorado for three games in three days. The trip begins on April 13 for a conference game at Fort Lewis. After playing Colorado Mines on April 14, the Griffins complete RMLC play at Western State on April 15. The regular season comes to an end on April 21 against the defending MCLA DI champions Brigham Young in Provo.
The 2012 RMLC Tournament will be held in Grand Junction, Colo. on May 3-5. The tournament will feature quarterfinal games on the first day with the semi-finals on day two and the title game being played on May 5. The MCLA National Championships will move to Greenville, S.C. this season with games being played from May 14-19.
