Westminster Faces Utah St. at Laxapalooza

SALT LAKE CITY
- The Westminster men's lacrosse team opens the 2010 Laxapalooza against Utah State on Saturday, April 10 at Juan Diego High School in Draper, Utah. The first annual day of lacrosse is sponsored by Adrenaline Lacrosse and features two in-state MCLA rivalry games along with two of the top Utah high school lacrosse teams facing off.

Following the Westminster vs. Utah game, Brighton High School will play Juan Diego Catholic School. The final game of the day features Utah going against Brigham Young.

Westminster heads to the event at 8-3 on the season and riding a three-game winning streak. They are 1-0 in RMLC action and have gone 2-1 in games played on a neutral field this season. The Griffins sit No. 5 in the Prodigy Network/Collegelax.us Top 25 Coaches' Poll that was released on Wednesday. They are also No. 6 in the Adidas/MCLA The Lax Mag Top 23 and 11th in the Laxpower.com computer poll.

The Griffins are averaging 10.9 goals per game and scoring on 31.8% of their total shot attempts. Westminster attempts 34.3 shots per game and puts 69.5% of those on goal. They have gone 9-of-50 (18%) in man-up situations this season and won 52.2% of 255 total faceoffs. Defensively they allow 10 goals per game and have held the opposition to just 8-of-70 (11.4%) with a man advantage.

Josh Condas currently leads the team with 21 goals and 29 points. His 21 goals rank seventh in the RMLC while his three points per game is the 14th-best average. Jacob Wayman is second on the team with 27 points. Wayman has a team leading 17 assists to rank fourth in the RMLC in total assists. He has four games this season with at least three assists. Andrew Gordon and Jake Arthur are tied for second on the team with 14 goals apiece.

Dallas McLellan has posted a 6-2 record this season behind a 63% save percentage. McLellan has made 114 total saves this season with a goal against average at 9.19. He currently ranks fourth in the RMLC in both save percentage and goals against average. Joe Illya has recorded an 8.41 goal against average while stopping 60.6% of his opportunities.

Against Utah State
Westminster is undefeated in three all-time meetings with Utah State. The last meeting was a 15-11 win by the Griffins on April 25, 2009 in Logan. The Griffins have outscored the Aggies 50-17 in the three previous meetings.

Looking Ahead
The Griffins head to San Rafael, California for two games in the Baggataway Tournament. Westminster plays Grand Canyon on Saturday, April 17. They take on host Dominican on Sunday, April 18. Both games will begin at 1 p.m.
