Westminster (Utah) Preps for In-State Action

SALT LAKE CITY - The Westminster
men’s lacrosse team has two in-state foes on the schedule
this week. They begin in Provo on Wednesday, March 10 against
Brigham Young at 7 p.m. The game will be played at North
University Field on the BYU campus. Westminster plays the
2010 home opener on Saturday, March 13 against No. 7 Utah
Valley. The action from Dumke Field will begin at 1 p.m.
Westminster enters the week at 4-1 overall and winners of for
straight games. They jumped to No. 9 in the Adidas/MCLA The
LAX Mag Top 23 poll that was released on March 8. They sit
seventh in the LAX Power computer poll and No. 11 in the Prodigy
Network/College LAX coaches’ poll.
Josh Condas leads the team with 19 points through the opening five
games. He has scored 15 goals to lead the team while
recording four assists. Condas is third in the RMLC in total
points and goals. Jacob Wayman is second with 17 points
behind a team-best 12 assists. He ranks first in the RMLC in
assists and eighth nationally. Jake Arthur is second on the
team with 11 goals.
Joe Illya leads all Griffin goalies with a 69.2% save percentage
with a 6.52 goals against average. Illya has allowed just 12
goals while posting a 2-0 record. Dallas McLellan has a 7.94
goals against average with a 63.6% save percentage. Jake
Boudreau has saved 57.1% of the seven shots hew has faced in
limited action during two games.
Last Action
Westminster went 3-0 during a three-game spring break road
trip. They began the trip with a 10-4 at Boise State on
February 26. Two days later the Griffins picked up a 15-8 win
over No. 13 Southern Oregon. They concluded the trip with a
76 decision against No. 8 Western Oregon on March 2.
Looking Ahead
Westminster welcomes Utah to Dumke Field for a 4 p.m. game
on Wednesday, March 17. Although played at home, Westminster
will be designated as the away team in this game. The
Griffins will also celebrate the first three years of the program
with an Alumni Game on Saturday, March 20. That game will
begin at 4 p.m. on Dumke Field.
