Aquin, Top-Ranked RIT Roast Western N.E.

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The No. 1 RIT (5-0) men's lacrosse team scored nine goals, including seven straight in the first quarter and cruised to an 18-6 win over Western New England University Saturday afternoon on the campus of Iona Prep School. Junior Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) led the Tigers high-powered offense with seven points on four goals and three assists.

The Tigers held a 43-34 shot advantage and won the ground ball battle 41-31. The Tigers won 16-of-31 face-offs and were 19-of-22 on clearing attempts. RIT scored on its only man-up opportunity, while holding the Bears to 0-for-3 on man-up chances.

Aquin led RIT with seven points. Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) had three goals and two assists, while Casey Jackson (Victoria, BC/Claremont) tallied four points on three goals and an assist. Freshman long-stick midfielder JD Hall (Centennial, CO/Arapahoe) scored a pair of goals, while Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park) dished out two assists. Colby Brainard (Fredericksburg, VA/Brooke Point), Beau Riley (Homer, NY/Homer), and Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute), Dave Shuster (Columbus, OH/St. Charles Prep), and Alec Sulesky (Medina, OH/Medina) also scored for the Tigers, who held a 15-5 edge at halftime. Shuster's goal was the first of his collegiate career.

In goal, Pat Johnston (Long Beach, CA/Norwell (MA)) picked up his fourth win of the season, making eight saves. He also scored his first goal of the season midway through the first half to give RIT a 4-2 lead. Senior Anthony DeLeo (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) made seven saves without allowing goal over 16:58 in the second half, while Jarryd Lee (Melbourne, Australia/St. Leonards) played the final 5:54 and made three stops for the Tigers.

Senior Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) won 10-of-16 face-offs, added an assist and recorded six ground balls. He is

Tied 2-2 with 10 minutes to play in the first quarter, the Tigers rattled off seven straight goals, taking a 9-2 lead on a Colby Brainard (Fredericksburg, VA/Brooke Point) goal with 11 seconds to play in the quarter. Aquin scored three of his four goals in the firsy quarter.

Western New England scored the first two goals of the second quarter, before five straight by the Tigers made it 15-5 at the half. Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) scored two of RIT's five goals in that run.

RIT got goals from Lee, Sulesky and Riley in the second half, as the Tigers held the Bears scoreless over the final 26:37.

The Tigers are now 3-0 all-time against Western New England. RIT has scored 18 goals in each of its last three wins and have 84 goals in five games this season. Jackson leads the squad with 19 goals and 25 points, while Lee is right behind with 22 points on 13 goals and nine assists.

RIT returns to action on Wednesday, March 19 at St. John Fisher College. Face-off at Growney Stadium is at 4 p.m.
