Madalon Earns IMCLA D-III Assistant Award

from press release

HOBOKEN, N.J.
– Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse associate head coach Matt Madalon won the IMLCA Division III Outstanding Assistant Coach award on December 7. This season will mark the sixth for Madalon on the sidelines of the nationally ranked Stevens lacrosse program.

In 2012, Madalon helped guide the Ducks to their first-ever Empire 8 Conference title in the program's 127-year history and a second round appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship. The team racked up a school-record 17 victories and only lost three contests by a combined six goals.

Over the past five seasons, the men's lacrosse program has tallied an overall record of 62-24, including a 33-6 mark in 2011 and 2012. Since 2008, when Madalon stepped foot on Castle Point, Stevens has garnered an impressive 15 USILA All-Americans, including the first-ever first-team honoree in Rich Dupras (Hillsborough, N.J.) last season.

At the Nike/IMLCA Luncheon this afternoon, the following was read to honor Madalon with his award:

"Coach Madalon has been with Stevens for five years and is a tremendous asset to our program. He is a quality assistant coach and has really coordinated our offense to produce some excellent numbers here at Stevens."

"Although Stevens has played lacrosse for nearly 130 years, our team last year and in 2011 shattered records in all offensive categories and has also won a program best 17 games in 2012. With a record of 17-3, we played in the NCAA tournament and lost 10-9 to SUNY Cortland.

In 2012, Stevens also won the school's first Empire 8 championship.

Coach Madalon has been my (head coach Gene Peluso) assistant for three years at Stevens and was the assistant for two years before my arrival.

Going on his sixth year, he has been an excellent recruiter. He had worked hard during the period of time when Stevens was looking for a new head coach and his work and passion for Stevens lacrosse was the reason I was able to come in and "hit the ground running" four years ago

We had four offensive All Americans in 2012 and they have all benefitted from Coach Madalon's excellent ability to coach and motivate student-athletes.

His longevity at Stevens is a product of his passion to our student-athletes and this program."

Stevens begins the 2013 season on February 20 at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. at a time still to be determined.
