Castleton Sweeps NAC Postseason Accolades

from press release

FARMINGTON, Maine - Castleton's undefeated run through the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's lacrosse regular season has been aptly rewarded by the league's coaches, as the Spartans have garnered honors for Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and Team Sportsmanship to highlight the 2013 All-Conference Team. Castleton sophomore attack Zach Davidson was voted the conference's top player, leading the league's top offense with a program-record 94 points, breaking the previous mark of 87 he set a season ago when he was voted the league's top rookie. Davidson's 51 assists led the conference, setting another Castleton record while his 43 goals ranked fourth in the conference and put him just seven shy of 100 for his career.

Joining Davidson as All-Conference First Team attack are teammate Spencer Hunt and New England College's Brian Gillis.

A pair of first-year players anchor Castleton's league-leading defense as David Barrett earned Defensive Player of the Year and Peter Latulippe was named Rookie of the Year. The duo played an integral role in Castleton's defense which allowed just 28 goals and caused 134 turnovers in conference play.

Barrett is joined by teammate Owen Hartman and New England College's Andy Crozier and Matt Hebert as first team defenders.

The All-Conference First Team midfield is made up of Castleton's Sam Bailey, Maine Maritime's Nick Betti and New England College's Adam Shute and Pat Miles.

Alex Hermes of Maine Maritime and Jesse Morkeski of Thomas rounded out the first team honorees at face-off specialist and goalie respectively.

Castleton Head Coach Bo McDougall earned Coach of the Year honors for the second-straight season after leading Castleton to a program-record 13 wins, including an unblemished 8-0 mark in conference play.

Castleton was also honored with the Team Sportsmanship Award.

All-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches. Extra spots on all-conference teams are awarded due to ties in voting. Players can be nominated, and honored, at more than one position.
