No. 3 Lynchburg's Strong Start Stops No. 5 Cabrini

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The third-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team opened up an early 6-2 lead and held on for an 11-9 win over No. 5 Cabrini College in non-conference action from Shellenberger Field Saturday.
Senior Vin Curran scored twice in the first period as Lynchburg took a 6-2 lead. The Cavaliers scored two times to open the second period before the Hornets answered with two scores. Cabrini scored three-straight times to cut the lead to 8-7, but Curran scored before intermission to open the lead to two.
After a high-scoring first half, there were just four second half goals between both teams. Senior Pat Ohrem scored an early goal in the third, but Ethan Heisman found the back of the net for Cabrini to make it 10-8. Curran opened the fourth period with an unassisted tally, and the LC defense was strong down the stretch, allowing just one goal the rest of the way. The Cavaliers out-shot LC 30-13 in the second half, but Lynchburg allowed just two goals in the final 30 minutes.
Curran posted four goals, two fired from over his back shoulder and into the net. Ohrem had three goals, and Derek Sweet had a goal and an assist. Max Voumard, Jay Goldsmith and Campbell Armstrong also scored for LC.
Anthony DiSanzo and Corey Elmer each scored three times for Cabrini (1-2). Mike Leyden had a goal and an assist and keeper Erick Zarzecki made 11 saves. Hornet net-minder Adam Davey made 19 saves for the victors. Anthony DiNenno won 15 of his 24 face-off opportunities for Cabrini.
Lynchburg (3-0) hosts Marywood University (PA) Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
