Otterbein Announces Captains for 2012 Season
from press release
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University men's lacrosse team recently announced its schedule, roster and captains for the upcoming 2012 season.
Headlining the trio of captains are juniors Steve Resch and Mike Spatafore, who will both be serving as captain for a third-straight season. Both have battled through injury to become key members of the defense throughout the past two seasons. The pair combined to pick up 42 ground balls and cause 20 turnovers a year ago.
"Steve is an excellent one on one defender with great intuition," said third-year head coach Colin Hartnett. He is a leader on the field who is often asked to guard the team's top attackers. Mike is our emotional leader who played through much of last season with an injury. We're excited to have him come into a season healthy for the first time in three years."
Joining Resch and Spatafore to complete the trio of captains will be sophomore Andy Hufford, who will serve as team captain for the first time. He grabbed 15 ground balls, caused five turnovers, and won nine face offs last season from his defensive midfielder position.
"Andy is as hardworking and coachable as anyone who has played for me," Harnett said. "I expect him to see significantly more playing time this season."
Highlighting the team's schedule is the initial three-game spring break trip spanning March. 10-15. The Cardinals will travel to play Centre College (Ky.), Sewanee University (Tenn.), and Berry College (Ga.).
Otterbein returns eight of 10 starters and will also welcome 14 newcomers from five different states.
