Bradman, Berkman Lead CAC Honors

from press release

YORK, Pa.
- Top-ranked Salisbury, the defending NCAA Division III champion that won its second-straight conference playoff title over the weekend, placed 11 players on the 2012 All-CAC Men's Lacrosse team, led by senior midfielder Sam Bradman (Canton, N.Y./Canton), who was named the Player of the Year for the second time in his career.

A three-time first-team all-star, two-time All-American and the only NCAA Division III player among the finalists for the 2012 Tewaaraton Award, Bradman became the fifth CAC player - all from Salisbury - to win the conference Player of the Year award twice.

Bradman was the 2010 CAC Player of the Year - the same year he was named the USILA Midfielder of the Year. He joins former Sea Gulls Jason Coffman (1995-96), Chris Turner (1999-00), Chase Caruso (2006-07) and Kylor Berkman (2008-09) as the two-time CAC Player of the Year award winners.

Another multi-year award winner from Salisbury is Jim Berkman, who was voted by his peers as the CAC Coach of the Year for the ninth time. Berkman won the CAC Coach of the Year award for the first time in 1996, then eight more times in the last 11 years, most recently in 2010.

The third individual conference award went to York freshman attack Tyler Hutson (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill), who became the second Spartan to be selected by the conference coaches as the CAC Rookie of the Year. Hutson, who also earned a 2012 first-team all-star nod, joins 2004 CAC Co-Rookie of the Year Andrew Collins as YCP standouts to be honored.

Bradman and Berkman were joined on the 2012 All-CAC team by 10 other Sea Gull players, including seven more first-team choices. Senior attackmen Matt Cannone (Bayport, N.Y./Bethpage) and Erik Krum (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa), junior Ryan Clarke (Manhassett, N.Y./Manhassett), senior defender Andrew Sellers (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and three specialists - senior shortstick middie Dean Rossi (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville), senior long-stick middie Evan Hockel (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and junior face off specialist Tyler Granelli (North Salem, N.Y./John Jay) - were all named to the 2012 All-CAC first team.

Cannone, the 2009 Rookie of the Year, earned his fourth-straight all-star nod (third first-team honor) while Sellers was a second-team all-star in each of the past two years and Krum and Granelli moved up to the top team this season after gaining second-team recognition in 2011.

Second-team honorees for the Gulls include senior attack Tony Mendes (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill), sophomore defender Zeke Smith (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) and sophomore goalie Alex Taylor (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg). Mendes is a second-team all-star for the second-straight year.

Fourth-ranked Stevenson and third-place St. Mary's each placed three players on the 2012 All-CAC first team.
The Mustangs placed freshman attack Stephen Banick (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic), junior defender Kyle Holechek (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola Blakefield) and senior keeper Ian Bolland (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) on the CAC's top squad.

Stevenson added four second-team all-star berths, including senior midfielder Justin Lea (Elkridge, Md./Mount Saint Joseph), junior defenders Parker Bratton (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh School) and Kyle Fendlay (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and sophomore long stick defenseman Ryan Rubenstein (Sykesville, Md./Boys Latin).

It's the second-straight year Stevenson placed seven players on the All-CAC team, but this year's representatives are all first-time CAC all-stars.

St. Mary's, which reached double digits in the wins column for the second time in three years but lost in the CAC semifinals at Stevenson, placed junior midfielder Taylor Cook (Hollywood, Md./St. Mary's Ryken), sophomore defender Tripp Trainor (Severn, Md./Gilman School) and senior long stick middie Peter Windsor (Towson, Md./St. Paul's) on the All-CAC first team. Windsor is a first-team all-star for the second-straight year while Cook and Trainor are first-time honorees.

The Seahawks added two juniors on the second-team all-star squad as first-time honorees - attackman Patrick Mull (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and face off specialist Albert Mitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint Johns).

In addition to Hutson, York was represented on the 2012 All-CAC team by senior midfielder B.J. Blaker (West Chester, Pa./W.C. Henderson), who gained a second-team all-star nod - the first of his career.

Mary Washington, which edged York for fourth place in the CAC standings to gain the home game against the Spartans in the opening round of the conference playoffs, picked up three positions on the All-CAC second team for sophomore attack John Bohlinger (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), junior midfielder Sean Dacey (Round Hill, Va./Loudoun Valley) and sophomore short stick midfielder Joey Marson (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly).

It was the first All-CAC awards for all three Eagles and the second-straight year UMW placed three players on the all-star squad.
