St. Laurent Tabbed W&L Men's Assistant

LEXINGTON, Va. - Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced the appointment of Nat St. Laurent as assistant men's lacrosse coach and assistant professor of physical education. St. Laurent begins his appointment immediately.

"It is my privilege to welcome Nat St. Laurent to our department," said Hathorn. "He is a fine, young professional who brings a wealth of experience in teaching and coaching to this position, and he will be an asset to our students, as well as our entire campus community. We are fortunate to have him become a part of us and I look forward to working with him."

St. Laurent is no stranger to Washington and Lee lacrosse, having served as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2009 season when he helped lead the Generals to a 16-4 overall record and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title.

"Nat St. Laurent will have an immediate impact on our program and the W&L community," said W&L Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Gene McCabe. "He is an excellent coach and a tremendous recruiter. I know our players are extremely excited he is joining our program. It is a pleasure to welcome Nat, his wife Cristin, and daughter Jaylin into our Generals' Lacrosse family."

St. Laurent will serve as the Generals' offensive coordinator this go-round after assisting with the offense and extra-man unit in 2009. W&L will return several starters from last season's squad that averaged 10.3 goals per game in finishing the season 11-6 overall.

"My family and I are extremely excited to be back at Washington and Lee University," said St. Laurent. "I am eager to start working with such a great coaching staff, as well as the outstanding student-athletes that represent the lacrosse program and university as a whole."

St. Laurent returns to Washington and Lee following one year as the head lacrosse coach at Ferrum College. In that role, he was responsible for recruiting student-athletes for a first-year program set to begin competition in 2011.

Prior to his experience at W&L and Ferrum, St. Laurent had been an assistant lacrosse coach at VMI for three seasons (2005-08), helping steer the Keydets to a conference postseason berth for the first time and helping direct one of the top offenses in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

During his time in Lexington, St. Laurent also served as a special education teacher at Enderly Heights Elementary School (2005-06) and Waddell Elementary School (2007-09). He is also a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, garnering recognition as the Soldier of the Year and Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year.

St. Laurent earned a bachelor of science degree in unified elementary and special education in from Keuka College, where he was a member of the lacrosse team. He also attained a master of arts in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech in 2009.
