Zazzaro Named First Rhodes Head Coach
from press release
MEMPHIS - Dave Zazzaro has been named Rhodes' first head coach. The Lynx will sponsor NCAA varsity lacrosse for the first time in 2011-2012. Zazzaro brings with him 17 years of head coaching experience.
"We're very excited about Dave Zazzaro becoming our first men's lacrosse coach," said Mike Clary, Rhodes Director of Athletics. "For Rhodes to begin it's program with a head coach who has a proven track record at two highly selective Division III institutions is quite a start."
Zazzaro was a lacrosse and soccer standout at Drew University, where he graduated in 1991. At the age of 23 he landed his first head coaching job at Colby College, where he compiled a 70-52 record in the highly competitive NESCAC conference, perhaps the top Division III lacrosse league in the country. In Coach Zazzaro's nine years at Colby his teams were ranked in the top 20 in the nation 7 years and in 1998 Colby won the NESCAC title.
In 2002 Dave left Colby to direct the Colorado College lacrosse program, where he compiled a 52-44 record. The Tigers 2004 and 2008 teams were ranked in the top 20 in the nation, the first time a Colorado College lacrosse team has been nationally ranked.
"After having been out of college coaching the past two years, I'm very excited about the opportunity at Rhodes," said Coach Zazzaro. "It's going to be fun working with the student-athletes, the athletic staff and the Rhodes Community to build a first-class men's lacrosse program."
