Balanced Scoring Lifts Stevenson Past Wesley

OWINGS MILLS, Md.
- The Stevenson men's lacrosse team scored 20 goals for the second-straight game and third time this season as 10 different players had at least one while the No. 3-ranked Mustangs won their 13th consecutive home game and seventh this season with a 21-2 CAC victory over Wesley Wednesday at Caves Athletics Complex.

Stevenson (10-1, 3-0 CAC) also picked up its 10th win of the season, marking its sixth-straight with at least 10 wins after the team had just one 10-win season in its first 11 years.

Senior Neal Barthelme (Towson/Dulaney) totaled seven goals for the second consecutive game and has scored 18 in the last three games. He finished with eight points, marking his fifth game this season he has scored at least five.

Meanwhile, senior Jimmy Dailey (Westminster/Winters Mill) totaled eight points with two goals and six assists and has scored 18 in the last two games. Wednesday marked the 68th career appearance for Dailey, tying him for the school record with current assistant coach Greg Furshman '09 and Austin Hale '10.

The Mustangs led 2-0 just 1:43 into the game on goals by senior Sean Calabrese (Rockville/DeMatha) and Barthelme.

Stevenson extended its advantage to 8-0 after the first 15 minutes, marking the sixth time in 11 games the Mustangs have not allowed a goal in the first quarter where they have outscored their opponents, 48-14.

Eric Crumbock got the Wolverines (4-7, 1-3 CAC) on the board with 12:09 remaining in the second quarter before freshman Tony Rossi (Towson/Calvert Hall) pushed the lead back to eigth with his 14th goal of the season at 10:29.

Rossi's goal sparked a 12-0 run for Stevenson who scored four in a span of 1:00 in the second quarter with tallies from freshman Chris Dashiell (Salisbury/Parkside), Calabrese and the last two from Barthelme.

Sophomore Danny Schanne (Dayton/River Hill) and senior Ryan Bragg (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) each netted their first goals of the season in the second half while senior Joe Valderas (Baltimore/Cardinal Gibbons) picked up his first point with a second quarter assist to Barthelme.

Senior Kyle Menendez (Cockeysville/St. Paul's) also tallied his third point of the season from the defensive end with his third assist on a goal by Barthelme with 3:49 to play in the first quarter.

Crumbock finished with a goal and an assist for Wesley who was outshot 72-30 and on the short end of a 36-17 margin in ground balls. Michael McQuarie won 11-of-20 face-offs, but the Wolverines were hampered by 33 turnovers.

Junior Ian Bolland (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) made four saves in earning his 10th win before giving way to freshman Colin Rayburn (Bel Air/John Carroll) and sophomore Mark Salerno (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington).

Michael McGuigan had a season-high 20 saves for Wesley.

Stevenson wraps up its regular-season home schedule on Saturday when it hosts a CAC contest with Marymount (Va.) on Senior Day beginning at 4:30 p.m.
