Landow, Wesleyan Down Bowdoin, 7-6
from press release
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Max Landow had three goals and three assists to lead the Wesleyan men's lacrosse team to a 7-6 win over 19th-ranked Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals improve to 3-0 this season while Bowdoin (0-1) drops its season debut.
Landow had a hand in six of Wesleyan's seven goals, assisting on the go-ahead goal in the third quarter and notching a pair of second half goals to give the Cardinals the win. Conor Malangone pitched in with two goals for Wesleyan. Bowdoin was led by a pair of scores from Russell Halliday and Keegan Mellhorn.
The hosts carried a three-goal lead into the second quarter thanks to Mellhorn's two goals and another marker from Mark Flibotte, but Wesleyan rallied with a 4-1 surge in the second period to knot the game at intermission. Consecutive goals by Malagone and Landow just 1:28 apart in the third quarter put the visitors ahead for good. Bowdoin drew within a single goal on two occasions, including on a score from Halliday with just 35 seconds remaining, but the Cardinals were able to hold off a late Bowdoin surge to seal the victory.
Grant Covington finished with nine saves for the Cardinals while
John Froats, Lex Johnson and Pete Modera had three ground balls
Bowdoin's Jake McCampbell made 10 stops for the home team, who got seven ground balls from Brendan Hughes.
