York Beats WAC, Improves to 4-0

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting York (PA) College built a four-goal halftime lead en route to an 11-6 non-conference men's lacrosse win over host Washington College this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Spartans improved to 4-0 with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 1-2 with the loss.
The score was knotted at 2-2 before the Spartans ran off four unanswered goals in the second quarter to build a 6-2 lead on a goal by Josh Gamble off an assist from James Lowe with 59 seconds left in the half. Jimmy Langton scored three goals in the first half for the Spartans.
The Shoremen twice cut the lead to two goals in the third quarter, but could get no closer. The Spartans scored the final three goals of the game to provide the final margin.
Langton finished the game with five goals to lead all scorers. Gamble added two goals and one assist, while B.J. Blaker scored a pair of goals and Lowe andJason Underwood each had one goal and one assist for the Spartans.
Freshman attackman Jim Cusick (Fallston, MD/Calvert Hall) led the Shoremen with two goals, while senior midfielder Shane Kaski (Mosley, VA/Midlothian) and sophomore midfielder Patrick Coyle (Reisterstown, MD/Calvert Hall) each had one goal and one assist for Washington.
York goalie Tyler Powell and WC junior goalie Peter Stewart (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) each had 15 saves in the game. York held a 38-33 advantage in shots, including a 23-11 advantage over the middle two periods. Each team won 10 face-offs, while the Shoremen held a 36-27 advantage in ground balls.
The Shoremen return to action Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. home game against Wesley College.
