DeLuca Named N.Y. Player of the Year

CORTLAND, N.Y. - SUNY Cortland junior midfielder Chris
DeLuca (Sayville) has been chosen as the 2010 New York State
Division III Men's Lacrosse Player of the Year. In addition, a
total of seven Cortland players were selected to either the
all-state first or second teams.
Joining DeLuca on the first team are senior attackman Brian Krol
(Niskayuna), senior midfielder Tom Burke (Massapequa) and junior
defenseman Justin Schneidman (Katonah/John Jay-Cross River). Senior
midfielder Brandon Misiaszek (New Hartford), junior attackman Jay
DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields) and junior defenseman Shane
Crossett (Camillus/West Genesee) were named to the second team.
DeLuca, who also earned State University of New York Athletic
Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Year honors, is third on the team
in scoring this season with 47 points on 32 goals and 15 assists in
16 games. He has won 113-of-158 faceoffs (71.5 percent) and is
second on the team with 63 ground balls. Krol leads the team with
53 points on a team-best 39 goals and 14 assists in 17 games.
Burke, chosen as a short-stick specialist, is Cortland's top player
in ground balls with 74. He also has 35 points on 21 goals and 14
assists in 18 contests. Schneidman, who has started all 18 games
this season, leads the Red Dragons with 45 caused turnovers and is
third with 60 ground balls.
Misiaszek has started all 18 games this season and has recorded 20
goals and 15 assists. DiStefano is fourth on the team in scoring
with 46 points on 26 goals and a team-high 20 assists in 18 starts.
Crossett has scored one goal and registered 17 ground balls in 18
games.
Cortland (16-2) has advanced to the NCAA Div. III national
quarterfinals and will host RIT, Wednesday, May 19 at 4:30 p.m. The
Red Dragons, who are the defending national champions, won the
SUNYAC tournament title to earn their NCAA berth and are looking to
advance to the national championship game for the fifth straight
season.
