'B' Clincher? OWU Doubles Up Wittenberg

DELAWARE, Ohio - Senior midfielder Chris Ehlinger (Radnor,
Pa.) had a goal and an assist as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with
a 4-0 run, and senior midfielder Craig Aronoff (Potomac, Md./The
Bullis School) scored a momentum-changing goal to help the Battling
Bishops defeat Wittenberg in a North Coast Athletic Conference
contest on Wednesday at Selby Field. The win splits the NCAC
championship between Ohio Wesleyan and Wittenberg. The conference
crown is Ohio Wesleyan's first since 2007 and the Bishops' 17th in
the 26 seasons of NCAC competition.
Ohio Wesleyan jumped to an early lead on an unassisted goal by
senior midfielder Robb Shrader (Worthington/Thomas Worthington)
just over 2 minutes into the game.
Ehlinger then scored an unassisted goal just over 5 minutes into
the game, and less than a minute later, found junior attacker Shaun
Crow (Darnestown, Md./The Bullis School) for a man-up goal that
gave the Bishops a 3-0 lead with 9:21 left in the first quarter.
Senior attacker Gavin Cunningham (Rye, N.Y.) finished the Bishop
run with a score that made it 4-0 midway through the quarter.
Wittenberg got on the scoreboard on Matt Lord's goal late in the
period, but Ohio Wesleyan added scores from senior attacker Rob
Young (Langhorne, Pa./Council Rock South) and senior attacker Chaz
Narwicz (Yardley, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) during the second quarter to
take a 6-2 lead at halftime.
The Tigers enjoyed the edge in play early in the second half,
drawing a penalty and getting a man-up score from Matt Snider less
than a minute into the period, and added a man-up score by Brady
Christensen midway through the third and another man-up goal by Ted
Winders in the opening minute of the fourth quarter to close to
within 8-5.
Aronoff scored an unassisted goal just 13 seconds later, seizing
the momentum back for Ohio Wesleyan, and the Bishops pulled away
with 3 straight scores, with senior midfielder Sam Striler (St.
Louis, Mo./Country Day), Ehlinger, and Cunningham adding goals to
extend the Bishop lead to 12-5 with less than 5 minutes left in
regulation time.
Young had a team-high 3 goals for the Bishops, while Ehlinger
finished with 2 goals and 2 assists, and Cunningham scored 2
goals.
Junior Jud Hall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) recorded 9 saves in the
Bishop crease.
Christensen had 2 goals and 2 assists for Wittenberg, while Lord
finished with a goal and 2 assists, and Winders had a goal and an
assist.
Mark DeOliveira went the distance in the Tiger goal, recording 8
saves.
