Fisher Routs Elmira; E8 Seeds Locked Up

ELMIRA, N.Y. - It was a monumental day for the St. John
Fisher College men's lacrosse team. On Tuesday, the
nationally-ranked Cardinals improved to 16-1 overall, setting a new
College-record for wins, in their 22-12 win over host Elmira
College. The victory also raised No. 11 Fisher's record to 7-1 in
the Empire 8 Conference, giving the Cardinals the regular-season
Empire 8 title and making them the No. 1 seed for Empire 8
Conference Championship.
Top-seeded Fisher will host No. 4 Ithaca College at 4 p.m. on
Friday. The winner of that game, as well as Friday's other Empire 8
Semifinal matchup (No. 3 Nazareth at No. 2 RIT) will play at 12
p.m. on Sunday at the highest-remaining seed with an automatic bid
to the NCAA Division III Championship on the line.
Fisher led 6-3 after the first quarter, but quickly pushed its lead
to 10 goals at 15-5 by intermission and never looked back.
Junior Erich Rassow won 22-of-25 faceoffs to lead the
Cardinals.
Kyle Denhoff, Connor Henderson and Chris Schmidt each scored four
goals for Fisher. Henderson added two assists, while both Denhoff
and Schmidt each added one.
Mike Cummins finished with four points on two goals and two
assists, while Scott Bowen dished out a three assists for the
second time this season.
Kory Smart and Ryan Schmidt each tallied two goals and one
assist.
Mitch Ritchie scored two goals, while Jeff Price totaled two
assists.
Justin Tomzak and Ryan Freije each picked up a point, while Tim
Barth scored his first goal of the year.
Senior Caleb Norton won 3-of-5 face offs.
Jon Cortina stopped three shots in the first half, while Dan
Serafine made five saves of the final 30 minutes.
