SUNYAC Stunner: Brockport Trips No. 9 Geneseo

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Junior Mike Tammaro (Painted Post,
NY/Corning West) scored three goals while Adam Drypolcher (Manlius,
NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Andy Hilton (Rochester,
NY/Gates-Chili) each scored twice as The College at Brockport Men's
Lacrosse team stunned the No. 9 ranked team in the country with an
11-7 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC)
victory over SUNY Geneseo Wednesday afternoon on Bob Boozer Field
at Special Olympics Stadium in Brockport.
Brockport (8-5 Overall, 2-3 SUNYAC) jumped out to an early lead
scoring the first three goals of the game. Midway through the first
quarter, Matt Andon-McLane (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham), Hilton and
Tammaro scored in a span of just over two minutes to give the
Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead.
SUNY Geneseo (9-3, 4-2), ranked No. 9 in the latest United State
Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III National
Poll, scored once at the end of the first quarter and cut the lead
to 3-2 1:32 into the second period. Just 12 seconds later,
Brockport's Justin Tierney (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) scored to
regain the two-goal advantage but Geneseo won the ensuing face off
and raced down the field scoring five seconds later to narrow the
gap back to a single goal at 4-3.
Two minutes later, Brockport took advantage of a man-up situation
as Jay Clifford (Hilton, NY/Hilton) scored his first career goal
for the Golden Eagles.
Each team scored once more before the end of the first half and
Brockport led 6-4 heading into the halftime intermission.
In the second half, Geneseo cut the lead to a goal again with a
goal 2:12 into the third quarter but Brockport rattled off the next
three goals as Hilton, Drypolcher and Tammaro each scored to
stretch the lead to 9-5.
Geneseo scored with 1:12 remaining in the quarter but with just 12
seconds left in the period, Drypolcher scored his second of the
game with a shot from his knees to push the Brockport lead to 10-6
heading into the fourth quarter.
The Golden Eagles defense tightened up in the final quarter holding
Geneseo to just a single goal which did not come until the 4:25
mark in the quarter. Tammaro had scored his third goal of the game
21 seconds earlier taking a pass from Andon-McLane to the side of
the goal and Tammaro faked out the Geneseo goalie for the 11-6
lead.
Andon-McLane scored once and added three assists and Mike Hartnett
(Cortland, NY/Cortland) also scored for Brockport. Junior Kyle
Crosley (Clinton, NY/Homer) made 16 saves with several coming on
shots from point-blank range to register the win.
