No. 4 Cortland Dispatches St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – Junior Chris DeLuca (Sayville) scored
a game-high five goals and won 11-of-14 faceoffs as the nationally
fourth-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team defeated St. Lawrence,
13-4, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Red Dragons
recorded their ninth consecutive win and improved to 10-2 on the
season, while the Saints fell to 7-5 with the loss.
Sophomore Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) added two goals for
Cortland, and senior Brian Krol (Niskayuna) and junior Jay
DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields) each contributed one goal and
one assist in the win. Seniors Tom Burke (Massapequa), Chris
Dutkowsky (Vestal) and Brandon Misiaszek (New Hartford) and
freshman Thomas Casey (Yorktown) netted one goal apiece, while
sophomore Greg Wright (Irondequoit) chipped in with two assists.
Freshman goalie Mike Kaminski (Sayville) made seven saves to earn
the win.
Caldwell Rohrbach, Mac Johnson, Trevor Scoon and Tucker Garfield
scored St. Lawrence's goals, and Scott Smith recorded an assist.
The Saints played three goalies in the game. Andrew Cochran started
between the pipes, allowing eight goals and making two saves in the
first half. Jeff Goeke played 28 minutes, 25 seconds and made six
saves and surrendered five goals, and Matt Ruscio played the final
1:35 and did not face a shot.
The Red Dragons took control of the game by building an 8-0 lead at
the half as DeLuca netted four of his five goals, highlighted by
three scores in Cortland's six-goal second quarter. The Saints
outscored Cortland, 3-2, in the third period to make it a 10-3
game, but Cortland answered by scoring 3-of-4 goals in the fourth
quarter for the 13-4 final.
