No. 7 Roanoke Fends Off No. 16 W&L, 10-8

LEXINGTON, Va. – The seventh-ranked Roanoke College
men's lacrosse team used a four-goal run over the third period to
produce a 10-8 victory over 16th-ranked Washington and Lee on
Wednesday evening at Wilson Field.
The two teams played a back-and-forth first half en route to a 5-5
tie at the break. The Generals (9-4, 3-2) claimed a 6-5 lead on an
unassisted goal by senior midfielder Kevin Feeney (Summit,
N.J./Summit) just 1:05 into the third quarter, but Roanoke (11-2,
5-0) senior attackman Ashton Hotchkiss (Darien, Conn./Darien)
started the four-goal run with a goal off an assist from first-year
attackman Richard Lachlan (Port Coquitlam, B.C./Terry Fox
Secondary) at the 9:14 mark. Lachlan then assisted on a goal by
senior attackman Matt Quinton (Elora, Ont./Kitchener Braves) just
11 seconds later and the Maroons added two more unanswered tallies
for a 9-6 lead entering the fourth period.
The Generals crept to within 9-7 on a man-up goal by senior
midfielder Drew Koeneman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) off a feed from
senior attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman), but Roanoke
responded with another goal just 1:44 later for a 10-7 advantage
with 6:42 remaining. Junior attackman Spence Daw (Phoenix,
Md./Loyola-Blakefield) scored with seven seconds remaining for the
final margin.
Keigler led W&L with two goals and two assists, while senior
midfielder Max Mancuso (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Feeney each
scored two goals. Koeneman added one goal and one assist and senior
goalkeeper Matt Mason (Gladwyne, Pa./St. Mark's) played 58:49 in
goal and notched 11 saves.
Hotchkiss and Lachlan paced the Maroons with two goals and one
assist each, while sophomore attackman Jeff Keating (Chatham,
N.J./Chatham) chipped in two goals. Senior Jake Dorsey (Woodbine,
Md./Mt. St. Joseph) played 59:40 in goal and stopped nine
shots.
Washington and Lee will now break for finals before returning to
action on April 17 at Randolph College. Opening faceoff is slated
for 1:30 pm.
