Scranton's Worthington Named Landmark DPOY
from press release
SCRANTON - An 11-save performance in the first start of
his collegiate career has earned Ben Worthington (Jenkintown,
Pa./Archbishop Wood), a freshman goalie on The University of
Scranton men's lacrosse team, the Landmark Conference Defensive
Player of the Week award for the period ending Sunday, April 4.
Worthington's effort came in the Royals' 7-5 victory over
Susquehanna University on Friday, April 2, in Landmark Conference
action in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, which snapped Scranton's
six-game losing streak. Defensively, the Royals held the Crusaders
to just one goal in the second half to wipe away a 4-2 halftime
deficit.
He becomes the second Royal men's lacrosse player to be honored by
the Landmark Conference this season, joining sophomore midfielder
Mike Rufo (Broomall, Pa./Haverford School), who was named the
conference offensive player of the week for the period ending
Sunday, March 7.
Scranton, now 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the Landmark Conference under
interim head coach Tim Marshall, will host defending conference
champion the Merchant Marine Academy this Saturday, April 10, at
2:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
