Still Perfect: Camels Rally for Overtime Win
from press release
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Steve Dachille scored five goals,
including the overtime game-winner to lift the Connecticut College
men's lacrosse team to an 8-7 win at Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon.
The 10th-ranked Camels remain unbeaten at 8-0 (4-0 NESCAC) this
season while the Polar Bears fall to 3-5 (1-3 NESCAC). The win is
the first for Conn. College over Bowdoin since 1999.
Dachille led all players with his five tallies, with four coming in
the second half as the visitors erased a five-goal halftime
deficit. Nathan Fritts led the Polar Bears with a pair of goals
while Adam Tracy and Ben Chadwick each had two assists.
The hosts appeared to be in control in the opening half, sprinting
to a 6-1 lead at intermission thanks to six different goal scorers.
Fritts capped the period with a score just 23 seconds before the
break as the Polar Bears held a 16-11 edge in shots in the first 30
minutes. The Camels stormed back in the second half, however, as
Dachille sparked a 6-1 second half surge, and drew Conn. College
even after forcing a turnover and putting home the game-tying score
with 3:46 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Bowdoin goalie Chris Williamson and Conn's Rob Moccia each made
sparkling saves in the final minutes to force overtime.
In the extra session, both squads traded possessions before Bowdoin
was charged with a slashing penalty. On the man-up advantage,
Conn's John Lyons circled to the top of the box and fed Dachille at
the point, who skipped a low shot past Williamson to give the
Camels their first victory against the Polar Bears since '99,
snapping a string of 11 straight losses to Bowdoin.
Williamson made 11 saves in net for the Polar Bears while Moccia
stopped 12 shots, including eight in the second half.
