Franklin & Marshall Upsets No. 8 W&L

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall notched
four first-period goals and held on to defeat the eighth-ranked
Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team, 7-5, on Saturday afternoon.
F&M (1-2) tallied three goals in the first 5:34 of the first
period, including a pair of tallies by Tristan Miller to take a 3-0
lead at the 9:26 mark.
W&L (6-1) got on the board at the 8:40 mark on a goal by senior
midfielder Kevin Feeney (Summit, N.J./Summit) before F&M's
Justin Rayman scored an unassisted goal with 4:37 left in the
opening stanza to give the Diplomats a 4-1 lead. F&M's Sean
Oliver scored off a feed from Colin McKew at the 12:49 mark of the
second quarter to give F&M a 5-1 lead at the break.
Following another tally by Miller that gave F&M a 6-1 lead with
10:30 in the third quarter, W&L received scores from senior
midfielders Max Mancuso (Northport, N.Y./Northport), Logan Bartlett
(Summit, N.J./Pingry School) and first-year midfielder Cooper Brown
(Baltimore, Md./Gilman) to trim the F&M lead to two goals (6-4)
at the 5:43 mark, but Miller scored his fourth goal of the contest
to give F&M a 7-4 lead heading into the final period as the
Diplomats handed the No. 8 Generals their first loss of the
season.
First-year attackman Mac Means (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy))
added a fourth-period goal for W&L and senior attackman Wil
Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) had two assists for the
Generals.
Senior Matt Mason (Gladwyne, Pa./St. Mark's) started in goal for
the Generals and notched eight saves with seven goals allowed in
58:38 of play. Junior Jason Lumpkin (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall)
played the final 1:22 between the pipes and did not face a
shot.
Miller led the Diplomats with four goals and Colin McKew added
three assists. Chris Marcozzi started in goal for F&M and
played the entire game. He came up with 11 saves while allowing
five goals.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts
Virginia Wesleyan at 1:0 pm.
