No. 19 Bowdoin Upends No. 11 Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Senior Adam Tracy scored one goal and
set up six others as the 19th-ranked Bowdoin (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC)
men's lacrosse team overcame an early 3-0 deficit to 11th-ranked
Wesleyan (2-1, 0-1 NESCAC) in an 11-7 victory Saturday. Bowdoin has
now beaten Wesleyan in three straight meetings, but earn their
first win in Middletown since April of 2000, snapping a seven-game
losing skid at Wesleyan's home field.
Russell Halliday and Mark Flibotte each posted a hat trick in the
win for the Polar Bears.
Saturday, Wesleyan jumped ahead 3-0 on a goal by sophomore Teddy
Citrin and a pair of markers from junior Conor Malangone. Tracy
then assisted on three consecutive Bowdoin goals, drawing the score
even at 3-3 with 8:19 left in the second period. The first two
goals came off the stick of sophomore Nathan Fritts while the tying
goal belonged to Flibotte.
Tracy got his only goal of the game off a feed from senior Steve
Thomas with 7:29 remaining in the second frame, giving Bowdoin the
lead for good. Halliday finished off the first-half scoring at 1:30
to give his squad a 5-3 margin.
Bowdoin scored the only goals of the third period as Flibotte,
Halliday and junior Ben Chadwick padded the lead to a game-high
five goals at 8-3. Wesleyan ended the eight-goal run when John
Froats netted his sixth goal of the year in the opening minute of
the fourth period. The longest scoreless segment of the game
followed as the next goal went Bowdoin’s way 8:27 later from
Flibotte. The Cardinals got three of the next four to cut the gap
to 10-7 as junior Graham Gnall, Malangone in completing his hat
trick, and Citrin, with his team-leading eighth goal, gave Wesleyan
a little life. But it was too little, too late as Bowdoin kept
Wesleyan at bay for the final two minutes while Thomas scored a
man-down goal with 1:14 left for the final margin.
Bowdoin netminder Jake McCampbell did the rest, posting 13 saves in
the win. The Polar Bears return to action on Monday when they play
Western New England in Dallas.
