Mar 10, 2010 No. 14 'Fords Rout York; Gettysburg Up Next

YORK, Pa. – The No. 14 Haverford College men's
lacrosse team downed York College, 20-10, Wednesday afternoon.
Holding a 4-2 lead after the first period, Haverford went on to
score 10 consecutive goals to build a sizeable lead.
Andrew Kim and Travis Gregory led Haverford (3-1) with four goals
apiece. Kim also dished out a pair assists for a six-point day.
Henry Lanier tallied three goals and Max Hjelm scored twice and had
three assists.
Josh Gamble scored three goals and had two assists for York (1-4).
B.J. Baker scored two goals and dished out two assists. Ryan
McNicholas and Kevin Topper also scored two goals apiece.
Despite nineteen penalties being called in the game only three off
the 30 goals scored were extra-man goals. Haverford was just
2-for-9 while the Spartans were 1-for-10.
The Spartans scored first in the opening period, but Haverford
responded by scoring the next four goals. York scored in the 10th
minute to make the score 4-2. The rest of the period went
scoreless, but it was only a matter of time until the Fords caught
fire.
Gregory scored two minutes into the second which ignited the
10-goal onslaught by Haverford. The Fords shutout York, 7-0, in the
second period to take an 11-2 lead into halftime.
Gregory scored the first two goals of the third period and Kim
added another 11 seconds after Gregory's second to extend the lead
to 14-2. The Spartans finally ended HC's hot streak when McNicholas
scored in the seventh minute. The Fords scored three more times and
York added two goals before the end of the period.
The Spartans outscored Haverford, 4-3, in the fourth period to cut
the final deficit to 10.
Joe Banno (3-1) made five saves in 45 minutes of action between the
pipes. Ryan Herz-Thyhsen made three saves in the fourth period.
Chris Collins recorded eight saves in 55:04 and was credited with
the loss for York.
Haverford travels to No. 1 Gettysburg College Saturday for a
rematch of last year's Centennial Conference championship. Faceoff
is slated for 1 p.m.
