No. 1 Gettysburg Dismantles King's Point
from press release
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – One day after earning their
first No. 1 ranking in eight years, the Bullets proved they
belonged at the top of the Division III men’s lacrosse world,
blasting Merchant Marine 19-3 in a non-conference tilt Tuesday
afternoon on a gorgeous sunny day at Shirk Field at Musselman
Stadium.
Gettysburg (5-0) took command from the opening face-off, scoring
six times before the Mariners (2-1) attempted a shot. The Bullets
led 9-0 at the end of the first quarter and 14-1 at halftime.
Senior Josh Reichert (Englewood, Colo./Kent School) tied a
career-high with five goals, including three in the opening 6:56,
to lead the Bullet offensive attack. Senior Joe Brody (Bethesda,
Md./Walter Johnson) added four goals and two assists for a
six-point day while junior Danno Lynch (Medfield, Mass./Avon Old
Farms) also notched a hat trick, scoring three goals to go with one
assist.

the game.

three quarters.

advantages in shots (59-18) and ground balls (45-22). The Bullets
also maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the
game, making half as many turnovers (28-14) as the Mariners while
winning 19-of-26 face-offs. Freshman Nick Avedisian (Laytonsville,
Md./The Bullis School) was 8-for-11 at the X while junior Luke
Santoro (Townsend, Mass./Deerfield Academy) was a perfect 5-for-5.
Junior Matt Griffo (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) went 5-for-10.

percent on clears, continued to perform well on the ride, as
Merchant Marine was just 13-for-23.
Reichert scored three of his team’s first six goals in the
opening quarter, when Gettysburg out-shot Merchant Marine 20-2. The
Bullets tacked on two more goals at the start of the second quarter
to go ahead 11-0 before the Mariners Sean Zakow put the visitors on
the scoreboard with 11:43 to go before halftime. But the Bullets
struck for two more tallies to go into the locker room up 13.
Gettysburg outscored the Mariners 4-0 in the third quarter to make
it 18-1 heading into the final period. Merchant Marine scored twice
before sophomore Tyler Feeley (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul’s
School) capped the day’s scoring when he found the back of
the net with 5:39 left.
