SCRANTON, Pa.
- Mike Rufo (Broomall, Pa./Haverford School), a sophomore on The University of Scranton men’s lacrosse team, picked up two weekly honors today.

He was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week and the university’s athlete of the week for the period ending Sunday, March 7.

On Tuesday, March 2, Rufo scored a game-high five goals in leading the Royals to a 12-5 victory over 12th-ranked Ithaca College in the season-opener for both teams at Fitzpatrick Field. He scored three of his goals in the fourth period as Scranton scored the final seven goals of the game to break away from a 5-5 tie midway through the third period.

This past Saturday, Rufo had a goal and an assist in Scranton’s 15-13 victory over Utica College.

In this week’s Landmark Conference statistical rankings, Rufo is first in man-down goals (0.5), tied for fourth in shot attempts (6.0 per game), tied for sixth in points per game (3.5), and tied for sixth in goals.

Scranton’s 2-0 start is its best in the program’s 24-year history.

The Royals, led by interim head coach Tim Marshall, will return to action this Wednesday, March 10, against the Rochester Institute of Technology beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
