Rufo Picks Up Two Weekly Honors

SCRANTON, Pa. - Mike Rufo (Broomall, Pa./Haverford
School), a sophomore on The University of Scranton men’s
lacrosse team, picked up two weekly honors today.
He was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week and the
university’s athlete of the week for the period ending
Sunday, March 7.
On Tuesday, March 2, Rufo scored a game-high five goals in leading
the Royals to a 12-5 victory over 12th-ranked Ithaca College in the
season-opener for both teams at Fitzpatrick Field. He scored three
of his goals in the fourth period as Scranton scored the final
seven goals of the game to break away from a 5-5 tie midway through
the third period.
This past Saturday, Rufo had a goal and an assist in
Scranton’s 15-13 victory over Utica College.
In this week’s Landmark Conference statistical rankings, Rufo
is first in man-down goals (0.5), tied for fourth in shot attempts
(6.0 per game), tied for sixth in points per game (3.5), and tied
for sixth in goals.
Scranton’s 2-0 start is its best in the program’s
24-year history.
The Royals, led by interim head coach Tim Marshall, will return to
action this Wednesday, March 10, against the Rochester Institute of
Technology beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
