Eight-Year Itch: Gettysburg Returns to No. 1
from press release
PERRY, N.Y. - For the first time in eight years, the
Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team is ranked No. 1 in Division
III after earning the top billing in the most recent United States
Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Top-20 Poll, released
Monday.
The Bullets (4-0), ranked No. 3 in the USILA preseason and Week 1
polls, moved up two spots after defeating then-No. 1 and defending
national champion SUNY Cortland 7-5 on Long Island on Saturday.
Gettysburg also defeated Goucher College 16-6 on Wednesday.
Gettysburg received 276 points with 10 of the 14 first-place votes.
Stevenson University picked up the other four first-place votes and
finished No. 2 with 264 points.
No. 3 Roanoke College (242 pts.), No. 4 Salisbury University (238
pts.), and No. 5 Cortland (232 pts.) rounded out the top-five.
Gettysburg has not received a top ranking by USILA since the end of
the 2002 season, when the Bullets were No. 1 for their final eight
games. Gettysburg reached the national championship game for the
second year in a row that season and lost 14-9 to Middlebury.
The Bullets pick up their schedule on Tuesday, when they host
Merchant Marine at 3 p.m. in a non-conference outing.
