Cabrini's Grugan Named to Tewaaraton List
from press release
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senior attackman Casey Grugan (Ridley,
Pa./Ridley HS) is one of 64 players nation-wide across Divisions I,
II and III to be named to the 2010 Tewaaraton Award watch list. The
Tewaaraton Award is the pre-eminent lacrosse award, given annually
to the NCAA men's and women's national lacrosse player of the
year.
Grugan has tallied 10 points on eight goals and two assists through
three games. He has scored at least one goal in 57 straight games,
eclipsing the NCAA Division III record that lasted 33 years in a
16-7 season-opening win against Fairleigh Dickinson University Feb.
24.
Grugan has recorded 247 career points on 149 goals and 98 assists,
trailing the program's all-time record by just 10 points (Scott
Reimer, 256). He has posted at least one point in 60 straight
games, the longest active Division III streak in the country.
Grugan is a two-time All-America selection, earning third-team
honors in 2008 and second-team distinction in 2009. He is the
two-time defending Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC)
Player of the Year.
Grugan is one of five Division III players named to the 2010
Tewaaraton Award watch list, joining Endicott College's Eric
Hagarty, Stevens Institute of Technology's Dave Decker, and
Stevenson University's Jimmy Dailey and Steven Kazimer.
The Tewaaraton Award was formally established in August of 2000 and
is awarded each year by the Greater Washington Sports Alliance.
Watch list nominees are screened and selected by two selection
committees. The selection committees are comprised of college
coaches, one committee for the men and one committee for the
women.
"I am excited to announce this year's watch list", said Robert
Sweeney, President of the Greater Washington Sports Alliance. "The
committee has done an outstanding job at selecting the top
contenders across the country. This year's list represents 35
institutions, over 13 conferences encompassing students from 14
states, Canada and Australia, so if this is any indication of what
is to come, I believe we are in store for an electrifying and
intense season ahead."
The award will be presented on June 3, 2010 at the Smithsonian
National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
