Plowman, Hamilton Named USM Captains

GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine
fourth-year men's lacrosse head coach Malcolm Chase recently
announced that fifth-year senior defender Josh Plowman (Gorham,
Maine) and sophomore middie Kayle Hamilton (Buxton, Maine/Bonny
Eagle) have been named captains for the 2010 season. Chase
made the announcement prior to the Huskies' recent West Coast
trip.
This is the second straight season that Plowman has served as a
captain. Hamilton is assuming the captain's duties for the
first time. Hamilton tallied 13 goals and dished out two
assists for 15 points in 12 games last season. He had two
man-up goals and one game-winning goal. A three-year
letterman, Plowman scored one goal in 18 games while spearheading
the Huskies defense.
The Huskies finished the 2009 season 11-7 overall and 4-3 in the
Little East Conference, their best campaign in the nine-year
history of the program.
The Huskies opened their 14-game 2010 regular season schedule
dropping a 16-5 decision at Whittier College on the recent western
swing. The Huskies will play their home opener against the
University of New England on March 12 (4:00 p.m. at Memorial Field
in Portland). Road trips to Maine Maritime Academy on March
20 (1:00 p.m.), St. Joseph's College on March 24 (6:00 p.m.) and
Bates College on March 30 (5:00 p.m.) close the March portion of
the schedule.
The month of April begins with the Huskies playing their Little
East Conference opener at home against defending league champion
Eastern Connecticut State University on April 3 (3:30 p.m. at
Memorial Field). The Huskies will travel to New England
College on April 6 (3:00 p.m.) for a non-conference game before
heading to Danbury, Conn., on April 10 (12:00 p.m.) to play LEC foe
Western Connecticut State University.
The Huskies return home to play Colby College on April 14 (4:00
p.m.) before traveling to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth
on April 17 (1:00 p.m.) and Plymouth State University on April 20
(4:00 p.m.) for LEC games. The Huskies play their final two
home games against Salem State College on April 24 (1:00 p.m.) and
the University of Massachusetts Boston on April 27 (4:00 p.m.).
Southern Maine closes the regular season traveling to Keene State
College on May 1 (3:30 p.m.). The top six teams in the Little
East Conference standings advance to the championship tournament
that begins May 4 with two first round games. The semifinals
will take place on May 6 with the championship game being played on
May 8. The winner of the conference tournament receives an
automatic berth into the NCAA national championship tournament.
