Plowman, Hamilton Named USM Captains

from press release

GORHAM, Maine  --  University of Southern Maine fourth-year men's lacrosse head coach Malcolm Chase recently announced that fifth-year senior defender Josh Plowman (Gorham, Maine) and sophomore middie Kayle Hamilton (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) have been named captains for the 2010 season.  Chase made the announcement prior to the Huskies' recent West Coast trip.

This is the second straight season that Plowman has served as a captain.  Hamilton is assuming the captain's duties for the first time.  Hamilton tallied 13 goals and dished out two assists for 15 points in 12 games last season.  He had two man-up goals and one game-winning goal.  A three-year letterman, Plowman scored one goal in 18 games while spearheading the Huskies defense.

The Huskies finished the 2009 season 11-7 overall and 4-3 in the Little East Conference, their best campaign in the nine-year history of the program.

The Huskies opened their 14-game 2010 regular season schedule dropping a 16-5 decision at Whittier College on the recent western swing.  The Huskies will play their home opener against the University of New England on March 12 (4:00 p.m. at Memorial Field in Portland).  Road trips to Maine Maritime Academy on March 20 (1:00 p.m.), St. Joseph's College on March 24 (6:00 p.m.) and Bates College on March 30 (5:00 p.m.) close the March portion of the schedule.

The month of April begins with the Huskies playing their Little East Conference opener at home against defending league champion Eastern Connecticut State University on April 3 (3:30 p.m. at Memorial Field).  The Huskies will travel to New England College on April 6 (3:00 p.m.) for a non-conference game before heading to Danbury, Conn., on April 10 (12:00 p.m.) to play LEC foe Western Connecticut State University.

The Huskies return home to play Colby College on April 14 (4:00 p.m.) before traveling to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on April 17 (1:00 p.m.) and Plymouth State University on April 20 (4:00 p.m.) for LEC games.  The Huskies play their final two home games against Salem State College on April 24 (1:00 p.m.) and the University of Massachusetts Boston on April 27 (4:00 p.m.).

Southern Maine closes the regular season traveling to Keene State College on May 1 (3:30 p.m.).  The top six teams in the Little East Conference standings advance to the championship tournament that begins May 4 with two first round games.  The semifinals will take place on May 6 with the championship game being played on May 8.  The winner of the conference tournament receives an automatic berth into the NCAA national championship tournament.
