W&L Crunches Birmingham Southern, 15-3

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) totaled a career-best five goals and one assist in leading the 13th-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team to a 15-3 victory over Birmingham Southern in the Generals' season-opener on Tuesday evening.

The Generals (1-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter on the strength of a pair of Keigler goals and one goal and one assist from senior midfielder Max Mancuso (Northport, N.Y./Northport). A third Keigler goal at the 10:34 mark of the second period gave W&L a 6-0 lead en route to a 6-1 advantage at the break.

W&L upped its lead to 9-2 following the third period and tacked on six fourth-quarter goals, including three tallies by Mancuso, for the 12-goal final margin.

Mancuso finished with a career-high four goals and one assist, while junior midfielder Drew Koeneman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) totaled one goal and two assists. Junior midfielder Justin Donati (Walkersville, Md./St. Paul's) added one goal and one assist and sophomore midfielder Rob Look (Dallas, Texas/Hillcrest) won 12-of-14 faceoffs. Senior Matt Mason (Gladwyne, Pa./St. Mark's) started and played the first 45 minutes in goal, posting eight saves and allowing three goals. Junior Jason Lumpkin (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) played the final 15 minutes and notched one save.

Sophomore attackman D.J. Ward paced Birmingham Southern (0-2) with two goals and one assist. First-year attackman Matt Ivie chipped in two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Cameron Overton started and played a total of 45 minutes, allowing 14 goals and logging 13 saves. First-year goalkeeper Andrew Huffman registered 15 minutes between the pipes and had no saves and one goal-allowed.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to Sewanee for a 4:00 pm CST game with the Tigers.
