Albion (Mich.) College Adds Men's, Women's Lacrosse
from press release
Albion (Mich.) College will add men's and women's lacrosse as varsity sports for the 2009-2010 academic year.
The additions will boost sports sponsorship at the school to 21.
There are 10 sports for men, 10 sports for women, and the
equestrian hunt seat program is co-educational.
"We believe that the addition of lacrosse will allow Albion to
attract many athletes that are currently participating in the sport
at the high school level," Albion President Dr. Donna M. Randall
said. "It is my expectation that Albion will become an option for
lacrosse players in Michigan and from the east coast."
Albion has fielded men's and women's lacrosse teams on the club
level for years, but as part of the promotion to varsity status,
the athletic department has formed search committees to select the
coaches for the lacrosse programs.
Albion will join two other Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic
Association members in sponsoring men's and women's lacrosse. One
other league member has indicated its intention to add women's
lacrosse for the 2009-2010 season.
