Miller, No. 12 NYIT Downs No. 14 St. Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vt. - No. 13 NYIT men's lacrosse evened to 2-2 on the season by handing St. Michael's a 12-4 season-opening loss Saturday afternoon at Duffy Field.
Sophomore Shawn Murphy (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal to open the third period. Murphy had a hat trick with three goals and dished out an assist. Setting up Murphy's game-winner at 12:37 in the third was junior Luke Miller (Mastic, N.Y.). Miller led the Bears with two goals and five assists for seven points.
The win went to rookie Alex Seltzer (Plainview, N.Y.), who improved to 2-2 on the season. He made a 14 saves on 18 shots faced. The loss was dealt to Andrew Landers (0-1), who made 10 saves on 22 shots faced.
NYIT opened with a 2-0 lead with goals from Eric Talbot (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Cory Triola (Levittown, N.Y.). St. Michael's interrupted the run but NYIT had the final say with Triola's second goal of the contest. Triola scored four goals on the day for his first hat trick of the season.
The Bears then went on to produce five unanswered goals throughout the second and third period to pull away for good.
NYIT returns to action on Wednesday, March 5 on the road against Dominican (N.Y.) College. Face-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Torne Valley Sports Complex.
