BELMONT, N.C.
- Belmont Abbey head men's lacrosse coach Chris Barrett has announced the addition of former National Lacrosse League veteran Tom Ryan to the Crusaders coaching staff. Ryan is currently the head coach and general manager of the Charlotte Copperheads of the Professional Indoor Lacrosse League.

"The Belmont Abbey Men's Lacrosse program is very fortunate to have a Coach Ryan join our program as an assistant this spring," Barrett said. "I am very excited about the new dynamic he will bring to the program. Tom is a very accomplished coach that had also had a great career both professionally and collegiately as a player and will be a very valuable member of our athletic department here at the Abbey! I look forward to Coach Ryan hitting the field and working with our student athletes!"

A nine-year National Lacrosse League veteran, Ryan amassed 202 points in 95 career games. Ryan played in Boston and Baltimore, before joining Philadelphia, where he was a member of the 2001 World Championship team. He was also a member of Team USA in 2002 as they defeated Canada in the Heritage Cup. He played for the New Jersey Pride in Major League Lacrosse's inaugural season.

He recently completed his second stint as Head Coach of the U.S. Indoor team that competed in the World Championships in Prague in May 2011 and Halifax in 2007. Ryan registered an 18-14 record and two straight berths in the NLL Playoffs as the head coach of the Boston Blazers in 2009 - 2010.

Tom is currently the head coach and General Manager for the Charlotte Copperheads Professional Indoor Lacrosse Team that play their home games at Bojangles' Coliseum. The Copperheads completed their inaugural season at the top of the PLL with a 6-1 record.

As a player, Ryan was an All American Attackman at Bowdoin College where he is still the all-time leading scorer with 315 points. He led the school to a pair of ECAC titles and graduated in 1993 with a degree in psychology. He is a member of the Canton, NY High School and Bowdoin College Hall of Fames.

Ryan has a Master's degree in Psychology from Connecticut College. He released a DVD entitled Stir It Up that chronicles his road from rural Canton, NY to an NLL World Championship with the Philadelphia Wings.
