Chadderdon's Snip Sinks Post, Lifts Le Moyne

from press release

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Andrew Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) scored the game-winning goal 1:02 into overtime to give the third-ranked and third-seeded Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team a 9-8 overtime victory over fifth-ranked and second-seeded LIU Post on Saturday afternoon in the First Round of the NCAA Division II Championships at Hickox Field.

The Dolphins, who played in and won an NCAA first round game for the first time in the program's history, advance to the NCAA semifinals for the 11th time in the last 12 years. For the first time in the 11 appearances, the Dolphins will be on the road, visiting fourth-ranked and top-seeded Adelphi University. The date and time of the game has yet to be determined.

Le Moyne, which won an overtime game for the first time since March 10, 2007 at Mercyhurst and improved to 7-6 all-time in overtime games (lost the last 3 – at Bryant on March 24, 2007, vs. Merrimack on May 9, 2010 and at Adelphi on April 6, 2013), opened the game's scoring just 2:43 into the contest as freshman midfielder/attackman Mike Jenkins (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) fired his 13th goal of the season into the back of the net.

Following a Le Moyne slashing penalty, the Pioneers took advantage of the extra man as Connor Drost finished off a feed from Ryan Slane with 9:08 remaining in the opening quarter.

The Dolphins regained the lead with 5:56 left in the first half as sophomore midfielder Joe Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) registered his 23rd goal of the campaign.

LIU Post, which defeated the Dolphins in the 2009 and 2010 national championship games, scored the only two goals in the second quarter. Slane, selected to the East Coast Conference Second Team in his rookie season, knotted the score at two apiece with his 30th goal 11:01 left in the quarter. The Pioneers took a 3-2 lead into the intermission as ECC Rookie of the Year Matty Beccaris tallied his 35th goal with 56 seconds to go.

Following a two-hour lightning delay prior to the start of the third quarter, the teams lit up the scoreboard in the second half with 11 goals over the 30 minutes. Sophomore attackman Kevin Kelly (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) started the scoring by picking up a rebound and dumping the ball into the back of the net to tie the score with 13:03 remaining.

Just over two minutes later, the Pioneers regained the lead as Chris Ruhlig tallied his 19th goal after taking a pass from Drost, an ECC Second Team honoree.

Le Moyne responded with three straight goals to close out the quarter. Sophomore midfielder Alec Westerhoff (Lagrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township/Bridgton Academy) evened the score at four apiece with an unassisted goal with 9:04 left. Kelly gave the Dolphins the lead with his 19th goal of the season with 6:38 to go after receiving a pass from Jenkins. The assist marked the 20th of the season for Jenkins, the third-most by a Dolphin freshman in the program's history and the most since Ryan Spillett '03 established the freshman record of 39 in 2000. Senior midfielder Doug Bailey (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) closed out the quarter's scoring with his eighth tally of the year with 1:37 remaining.

LIU Post started the fourth quarter's scoring as Anthony Berardis, an ECC Honorable Mention selection, netted an unassisted goal 42 seconds into the stanza.

The Dolphins regained their two-goal advantage with 7:21 remaining after junior defenseman Max Wagner (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) caused a turnover. Senior defensive midfielder Conor Regin (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Onondaga C.C.) picked up the loose ball and cleared it upfield, which led to the 15th goal of the year by junior midfielder/face-off specialist Kam Bumpus (Marshfield, Mass./Needham/Bridgton Academy).

The Pioneers answered back just over one and one-half minutes later as Drost scored after having his initial blocked by a Le Moyne defender.

Westerhoff registered his 14th goal of the campaign with 4:24 remaining to extend Le Moyne's lead back to two.

After a Le Moyne turnover out of a timeout, the Pioneers carried the ball into their offensive end before calling a timeout of their own with 1:54 remaining. Just 20 seconds after the timeout, Berardis recorded his 21st goal to pull LIU Post within 8-7. The Pioneers won the ensuing face-off and following a pair of missed shots, Drost tied the game at eight apiece with 31 seconds remaining after taking a pass from Beccaris.

The Dolphins had two shots to win the game in the final seconds of regulation, but put one wide and one high.

After graduate student midfielder Aaron Cahill (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland/Onondaga C.C.) picked up the ground ball on the opening face-off of the overtime period, the Dolphins called timeout. Just 25 seconds later, Chadderdon fired in his 24th goal of the season to win the game and send the Dolphins onto the NCAA Semifinals.

Senior goalkeeper Jeff White (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius HS) made six saves between the pipes to earn his 16th win of the season and the first NCAA victory of his decorated career. Tim Bradley made 12 saves in the loss for the Pioneers.
